By After months of anticipation since December 2023, UFC President Dana White has been teasing fans with promises of something “extraordinary” for UFC 300. Finally, on the heels of UFC 298, White unveiled the headline bout for this landmark event.
“I am thrilled to announce the main event of UFC 300 right now,” White declared in a video captured inside the Honda Center, the venue for UFC 298. “It will feature Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill.”
White went on to highlight the remarkable achievements of both fighters. “Alex Pereira is on track to become a dual champion in UFC history, holding titles in both the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions. He clinched the middleweight championship in record time and swiftly claimed the light heavyweight title with the fewest number of fights. Pereira is a dynamic striker known for his explosive power, with seven of his nine MMA victories ending by knockout. He’s a force to be reckoned with. Facing him will be Jamahal Hill, the former light heavyweight champion who relinquished his title due to injury after a stunning victory over Glover Teixeira.”
White continued, “Hill made history with a remarkable 232 strikes landed in a single UFC light heavyweight bout. He is also the first alumnus of the Dana White Contender Series to capture a UFC world title. Like Pereira, Hill boasts elite kickboxing skills and devastating knockout power, earning performance bonuses in his last four fights, with four of his recent UFC wins coming by knockout.”
Pereira, with a record of 9-2, is coming off a technical knockout victory over Jiri Prochazka in November 2023, securing the vacant UFC light heavyweight crown. Hill, with a record of 12-1-0-1, last competed in January 2023, defeating Glover Teixeira for the vacant light heavyweight title via decision before relinquishing it in July 2023 due to a basketball-related injury.
